Toothpaste is the first thing in the morning, which you put into your mouth after a long break of consuming nothing in the night. There are many theories and advises regarding what should be consumed/put first into the mouth after waking up (like drinking water, oil pulling methods, etc) .  I have a feeling that my mouth cells are dry and ready to absorb the first thing which I put into my mouth with very much intensity. So I am pretty much sure that it should not be the chemical mix (commerical toothpaste) which is the first thing which we taste in the morning. It's the same reason why don't want to taste chemicals before going to bed also.
In India, before commercial toothpastes were introduced, there were many natural ways to maintain the dental hygiene, which were as effective / better than the commercial ones. They tasted a bit wierd, but were doing the job with all the ingredients which they had in their habitat.
Later on, people were introduced to commerical toothpastes and as a part of the advertisement propoganda, commercials occupied the market over the use of traditional ones. But nowadays, many are becoming aware of the ill-side effects of the commerical chemical mixes and have started looking back into the books of their ancestors.
Let's take a look, how to prepare one very effective toothpaste with the following natural ingredients (available in AVATA Online Store)
Directions for use:
  • Mix well in a small bowl or container (You can also store it in a container for long periods, if you avoid moisture contact)
  • Take a small quantity and apply and brush your teeth with your tooth brush or finger (Or use natural neem sticks for better results)
  • Leave it for a minute or two on your teeth.
  • Spit out the rest and rinse clearly with water (The paste is fully natural but still don't consume it)
  • Store it in cool dry place (Or else the coconut oil will melt)
According to a study by the Indian Society of Periodontology, turmeric was shown to be just as effective as a mouthwash when it came to oral health.
Turmeric was shown to be incredibly effective at preventing plaque build-up and gingivitis and had noticeable anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric was also bio-compatible with all of the subjects who used it, meaning that they did not suffer from any side effects.
Virgin coconut oil is also an important addition to this natural teeth whitener due to its antimicrobial properties.Coconut oil can kill Streptococcus mutans, the most common bacteria that causes cavities. Various strains of bacteria have been shown to be inhibited by the medium-chain fatty acids that are derived from virgin coconut oil, making it the perfect supplement to put in oral hygiene products in order to prevent infections and gum disease.
Caution: Turmeric is very stainy with many things, but not with our tooth. So please handle with care. It might stain also the toothbrush, so don't worry. Please be careful that you don't spoil your bath floor or tub by spilling them.
